FAQ: Sending Money from Korea to Japan

When sending money to Japan, you can enter the recipient's account details in one of two ways: 'Manual entry' or 'Upload bankbook copy'.
① Manual account entry

  • Recipient name: Katakana name as printed on the bankbook
    (If the name on the bankbook is in English, please use the 'Upload bankbook copy' option instead.)
  • Recipient phone number
  • Recipient address
  • Account type
  • Bank name: If your bank does not appear in the search, please use the 'Upload bankbook copy' option.
  • Branch name: If your branch does not appear in the search, please use the 'Upload bankbook copy' option.
  • Account number
② Upload bankbook copy
  • Take a photo of the bankbook and upload it.
  • Make sure the upload clearly shows all of the following:
    : Recipient name, branch name, branch number, account type, account number.
⚠️ All information must be entered completely and accurately for the remittance to go through.
⚠️ Incorrect recipient account details may cause your remittance to be rejected or make a refund difficult to process.
⚠️ Remittances to foreign-currency accounts other than JPY (e.g., USD) are not supported.

Enter your remittance amount on the "Send money" screen of the MOIN web or app, and the fee for that amount will be displayed instantly!
(※ MOIN exchange rates refresh every 10 minutes. Once you complete your remittance application, the rate is locked at that moment.)

  • Document review time: about 2 hours on average (review may be delayed during high-volume periods).
  • Remittance time: about 10 minutes on average after the status changes to 'Sending' (up to within 1 business day) (*based on local bank business days).
⚠️ Even after the 'Sent' notification is sent, the receiving bank may take up to 1–2 business days to deposit the funds.
⚠️ Actual completion time may vary depending on the receiving account status or local conditions.
⚠️ Unexpected external factors (country/bank, etc.) may cause delays, so please send with extra time to spare.

  • While documents are under review: no refund fee.
  • After a remittance is rejected and the status becomes 'Modification requested': refund fee of KRW 8,000.
  • While 'Sending' / processing at the receiving bank / 'Sent': the remittance has already been delivered locally and is non-refundable.
  • Other: If there is no response for 14 days or more after the status becomes 'Modification requested' due to a data error, fees will be charged according to the previous remittance step before refunding. (*See the terms for details.)

  • Annual cumulative limit: 50,000 USD per year (for non-residents)
  • Per-transfer limit to Japan: 5,000 USD
  • ⚠️ The annual limit resets every January 1 and is managed across all financial institutions combined.
  • ⚠️ If you exceed the per-transfer limit, you can split the amount, or use Moin Biz Plus with no limit when you have proof of current-account transactions (e.g. an invoice).
  • ⚠️ The same limits apply to both corporate and individual users.
